Trends of Treatment Research on Childhood Trauma in Korea: Analysis of Korean Journal and Theses(1991-2015)

Abstract
The objective of this study is to identify research trends by analyzing thesis on childhood trauma treatment in Korea for 24 years from 1991 to 2015. The research has been activated as psychological trauma of children, who are often helpless victims of small and large accidents, emerged as a social problem and interest in childhood trauma increased. A total of 114 thesis were selected, classified, and analyzed according to publication year, research subject and method, and findings. The result is as follows. First, papers on treatment of childhood trauma have been steadily increasing since 2004, 56.9% of which were published in academic journals. Second, in terms of characteristics of subjects, the number of papers including subjects of both genders was biggest with 41.2%; the age level of 11 to 13 years was the majority with 39.7%; and treatment of one child accounted for the biggest percentage with 52.0%. In terms of trauma type, the number of abuse cases was biggest with 46.5%. Third, in terms of the research method, group treatment and individual treatment were almost at the same level with 50.0% and 48.2% respectively. The percentage of case studies was 57.9% and 62.3% of the papers were qualitative studies. Fourth, the most popular research topic was emotion (30.3%), and 45.6% of the studies
were based on art therapy. For the number of treatment sessions, 11 to 15 sessions were most popular with 25.4%; weekly sessions were administered among 51.8% of the studies; and the length of one session was longer than 30 minutes to one hour among a majority of the studies (57.9%).
